This week we said goodbye to Billy Graham, an American icon and a symbol for what has been good and right about evangelism in the last century. I had breakfast with my mom this morning and one of the first things she said to me was, “Wouldn’t you have loved to have been in heaven this past Wednesday morning?” Yes. Except, not yet. On my way back to Burlington I saw a billboard that had a picture of Billy Graham on it and the words, “Welcome Home!” I never got to meet Billy Graham on this side, but look forward to getting to know him there.
Shout out to good friend and fellow church member, Dr. Chris Davis. I loved this article he sent me this week. I am an adjunct professor at a university, and could not agree more with the problem we see on many campuses these days, where discussion and dialogue is only possible if you happen to agree with the left-leaning ideology held by the majority. Amy Wax, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, does a brilliant job explaining the problem and suggesting the obvious solution.
Cindy and I have loved each season of the Great British Baking Show, and can’t wait until the next one becomes available on NetFlix. It’s a contest, and one contestant has to leave each week, so that satisfies my “What’s the point?” question. But it is also a lesson in what Paul said to Titus, that we are to “show perfect courtesy toward all people.” The contestants on the show really do care about each other, even to the point that they will help each other with their bakes when time is running out, and it looks like one contestant is not going to finish. Can you imagine that scenario and how it would play out on an American show? “Oh, Fred, are you having a hard time getting your icing on the old cupcakes? Too bad, loser!”
Check out the show. It is family-friendly and lots of fun. Just be prepared to fight the temptation to eat every baked good you can find in the house after watching an episode.
That sounds good, Jerry. I’ll have to check it out!

Hey Mark! Thanks for your teaching, and for sharing your “guilty pleasure” show. I like to see contestants help each other in that way, and have seen it many times on one of my favorite shows, “Forged in Fire” on History channel. It’s a total guy show- fire, steel, hammers, weapons, beards… the works! Check it out when you have time.
Blessings to you and your family~
Jerry
